Nellie was rescued from a Chicago neighborhood alley and had to learn normal cat behavior and what indoor life was like. We may never know if Nellie was once a pet or simply born on the streets, but she is surely enjoying her spoiled domestic life now! When introduced into a new environment, Nellie is shy at first so she will need a short period of time to get adjusted to her new surroundings with an understanding and patient adopter(s). Patience is a virtue. Once you’ve earned her trust, she will show you love in her way and be a fun sidekick. She will let you know if she wants pets and attention or if she would rather just be admired close by. Nellie absolutely LOVES playing! Her favorite toys are little springs, mice, wand toys, and anything that jingles. Nellie really opens up once playtime is introduced! Sometimes Nellie does not know when playtime has ended, so you will have to be patient if she tries to nibble your hand or fingers. She does enjoy sitting on a nice warm lap from time to time. She will even purr when all cozy and receiving head scritches! Nellie has gotten very comfortable with her foster and even gives them kisses. She gives small licks and puts her nose to your mouth when you make kissy noises towards her. Nellie is a true food monger, so much so she will grab your arm with her paws when giving her a treat. She goes crazy for a lickable treat, especially Churus or Temptations. She loves to get some stimulation through lick mats as well! Nellie has started to learn how puzzle toys work. You hide treats or dry food in the compartments and she has to move the pieces to uncover the food. Everyday, Nellie gets smarter and more social! She meows and chats with her foster every morning and evening when ready for her meals. She enjoys being picked up occasionally to get some new views, but she likes her personal space as much as anyone. Nellie is very curious and will sniff anything in your hand. She loves to understand her surroundings and will investigate anything out of the ordinary. She likes looking out the window to continue her role as neighborhood watch. Nellie would love to have a few hiding spots to feel most safe, but she also likes to sleep on top of furniture when given the opportunity! If you are looking for a kitty with a purrsonality, Nellie is your girl! She knows what her boundaries are and will be vocal about them. She is a playful goofball with a bottomless stomach.
